How are risks handled in Scrum?

To ensure business viability the probability of project failure must be reduced. More informed business

decisions have to be made. And it is important that risks are effectively managed through a well-
organized and methodical approach.

In a Scrum environment, risk is generally minimized, largely due to the work being done in Sprints

whereby a continuous series of deliverables is produced in very short cycles, deliverables are compared

to expectations, and the Product Owner is actively engaged in the project. However, even in the

simplest of projects, things can go wrong, so it is important to have a strategy to identify and address

risk.

Therefore, we must define risk, discuss the management of risks in a Scrum environment, and consider

the tools that facilitate the management of risks.
